Dzaleka Refugee Camp is located in Dowa District, Malawi, a Southern African country. The camp hosts 52,000 refugees mainly from DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Somalia, and Ethiopia (UNHCR,2021). The camp has only 35 borehole as source of water serving the whole community. Women and children spend more than 3 to 4 hours to access water and this affects their health and the daily to daily life. Young girls wake up night and they are exposed to sexual harassment and some of them are obliged to drop out from the school.
We are raising funds in order to dig and install 8 boreholes (manual water pumps with handles) in the camp to increase the source of water in order to save life by increasing the access to clean water, prevent school drop outs and diseases, reducing the number of hours women spend at boreholes for them to attend to other economic activities. One borehole costs $1000 this includes digging the hole, buying water pump, installation of the pump, and fixing handles to easily manipulate the pump.
The money raised will directly go to the Dzaleka Refugee Camp management team via Joyce Mwanamveka who is the officer in Charge and will be the one withdrawing the money raised. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=18FkiYepU-h5tz_OmI_9Xi6r9PXN-YXmF
