Hi! my name is Georgina Otieno. I am a psychiatric nurse in Kenya at a county called homabay. my passion has always been mental health, after vast experience in this field, have realised that theres a dire need of a mental health facility within this county, with the surge of the corona virus, the number of people having mental condition has been on the increase. some of the most noted conditios are; depression, anxiety, stress, suicide, alcohol use disorders and drug addiction ,just to mention but a few. i believe that when theres is a facility that caters to clients with the above conditions a reduction will be noted and they will be aware of whats ailling them. have also noted that there are some condition brought about by mental health issues e.g heart conditions.
The reason why mental health resonates well with me is because i was once in this sitution. i almost committed suicide when i was expecting my first child. i had aman whom i actually thought loved me but to him i was like any other, when i realised that this love was one sided, i was already pregnant. my mother never made things easier, instead she felt like i did a gravious mistake by getting pregnant before marriage. my father on the other hand sort of felt my pain but didnt want to hurt mums feeling. so one day having noted that i was in a world of my own, he wrote me a short message in bold that read "DONT DO ANYTHING SILLY, WE WILL TALK WHEN I GET BACK" and went to work.
In the evening we sat down and he was sorry that i had to experience single motherhood but also look on the brighter side. that am a qualified nurse and that when the baby is old enough i could find a job and take care of him/her. it was a winwin since babies are a blessing.
Personally i had someone who believed in me and i overcame my situation, what about those who have no one? doesnt he /she desrve someone who can lend an ear? thats the more reason why i want to start a campaign to buy land for building a mental health facility, that will provide affordable servies to the people of Homabay and its environs.
