Authorities in Kampala, Uganda regularly put down stray dogs to control their population and prevent an outbreak of rabies, against which most of the dogs aren’t vaccinated. Dog owners and animal rights activists condemn city authorities for killing the dogs, but residents say it is the only way to keep rabies at bay. There are about 20,000 dogs in the city of Kampala, and 6,000 roam the streets and have no known owners. Another 2,000 dogs have owners who let them roam freely. Many owners can’t afford to feed the animals regularly, so the dogs scrounge for food in the streets. Most owners keep the canines for security reasons, not as pets. Almost everyday , school going children are bitten by stray dogs and are at a risk of developing rabies of the dogs are not vaccinated . As a result, most dogs are put down through poisoning every year. “The objective of poisoning stray dogs is to control rabies and any other zoonotic diseases associated with dogs, “It’s a continuous process until all stray dogs are removed from the streets.” It’s because of this that me and my team of friends have therefore decided to protect these animals. We therefore need to build a home, vaccinate , feed these animals. Furthermore, we need to protect their lives. This home will set up In Kampala. Therefore we put the request foward so that we all can help build these dogs a home. Our target is to be able to set up a home for the animals, vaccinate them and also be able to feed them. We request for your help through donations and also we would happy to receive advise from some people. God bless you as you give. Photos
